Description:

Christopher Hitchens on CSPAN2 9/2/07. I apologize for the glitchy sound in places, it seems to happen less often after a couple clips.

I would have preferred that Hitchens addressed the first caller's questions and points rather than discard them with a whim.

I'm really enjoying this, thanks. Are the audio dropouts present in the original broadcast, or are they artifacts of the conversion process?

This is the most candid interview of Hitchens I have witnessed. His self deprecation gives the viewer a sense of humility not typical in Christopher's personality. The discussion of his mother's self inflicted mortality allows me to relate to him from a powerful humanistic perspective.

Thanks for this mammoth post! Hitchen's disarming honesty and self-depreciation seems repeatedly to skewer his critics. Superb observation on the intellectual equivalence of the Falwell/Robertson lobby and the self-hating pseudo-liberals.

I agree, the religious nutjobs and the pseudo-liberals who make apologies for them are as intellectually bankrupt as each other. Interesting to hear about Hitch's difficult background. His self-depreciation is a very attractive quality.
