I remember watching this one, and the camera catching the look of pure agony on that one crew member getting bent in half will always be in my memory. Thank God no one was killed.

I meant they retired from this particular race, as in, both drivers went to the garage after this incident and didn't return to the track.

Um no they didn't Smith retired after his crash in 1993 at Talladega when he suffered injuries in a crash. Tracy Leslie continued racing in the Busch Series until 1999.

This was, as Ken Squier refers to in the video, Stanley Smith's Winston Cup debut, piloting a Pontiac for Tri-Star Motorsports (in the car that Bobby Hamilton would drive to Rookie of the Year honors the following season). ARCA (and future BGN) competitor Leslie was making his 4th career start, and first since Ron Parker took over ownership of his family-run team. Both drivers retired from this race following the incident on pit road.

A horrible-looking incident, but fortunately none of the crew members were severely injured. Smith, ironically, would make his final Winston Cup start in the 1993 running of this very race, as he suffered near-fatal injuries in a multi-car accident that also sent Jimmy Horton sailing over the guardrail.
