googoobh ::: Favorites 2007-12-18 08:14:43 I totally agree with you , I hope I didn't sound like I exclusively felt the bible was the end all of moral teachings. In fact there are many examples of horrible ethics as well in the bible, especially in attitudes about equality, etc.. yes I would say as lititure goes it's not really all that wonderous. I get as much out of greek mythology and It's more fun. __________________________________________________
geistjagerin ::: Favorites 2007-12-18 01:27:11 Is it a learning tool of the ranks of all other learning tools (i.e. is it no better to study the bible than any other text on ethics or morality) and if so, why study it rather than other, more accessible texts, and if not, what sets it apart? And why is the bible being used as a means to an end? And how do we know its meaning is not literal? And how do we know what we are supposed to get out of it? __________________________________________________
googoobh ::: Favorites 2007-12-05 18:38:04 I myself don't have any belief in a god or deity , but I feel the bible does still hold some worthy lessons and lititure, In esence, I don't hate the bible just how the bible is used,and or abused. __________________________________________________
googoobh ::: Favorites 2007-12-05 18:29:10 Some would agree with that statement, mostly fundementalists, but in a lot of the smaller church sects, such as "the diciples of christ" veiw the bible [KIng James version] as a learning tool and an ethics study, knowing each word of the text is to be taken more lightly. And as I under stand many forms of the jewish faith veiw the old testiment in much a simular fasion. so not all christians and jews take the bible word for word, yet still follow the moral teachings. __________________________________________________
modemmack ::: Favorites 2007-11-26 13:11:40 To deny or ignore any part of a the bible makes you effectively an atheist to some degree. If a book is supposed to be considered absolute truth then you as a devout christian must believe all parts. Even the parts that turn your stomach. __________________________________________________
zaqmlp1234 ::: Favorites 2007-11-23 18:06:11 telling adults there is no god is like telling children there is no santa claus. adults behave exactly like the disappointed children. there is no god/s. love, bring happiness to others, and seek virtue and truth. __________________________________________________
bodnotbod ::: Favorites 2007-11-08 03:46:03 Excellent to see this. It's annoying that no christians are commenting and fighting back. It can only leave you thinking that they would never follow a programme so against their beliefs this far. __________________________________________________
IntroTheRhetoric ::: Favorites 2007-11-02 04:33:33 October the 22nd. Isn't that the begining of scorpio birthdates? __________________________________________________
FSMTeapot ::: Favorites 2007-08-24 17:45:17 Oh, most of the BBC is pretty dull nowadays. BBC Four and the occasional program on BBC 2 are good though. But BBC Four has recently been critisized for being too "high brow". Apparantly Andrew Marr's programs on the enlightenment and philosophy were too difficult for the average viewer. Good. Lets have some more. __________________________________________________

whop9 ::: Favorites 2007-08-03 23:03:25 Depends on who teaching and what's being taught. __________________________________________________
dwhitlo3 ::: Favorites 2007-08-03 17:04:54 Yea, the programming director added that their viewers don't share these ideas. Too bad, I think a little exposure to alternate views might help to change them. Education is always a plus. __________________________________________________
