Description: Hi, this video shows the modifications I've done to my new R1200 GS! This is now the bike I usually take when I do the free Doc Wong Street Riding Clinics. Handy in the rain, mud and gravel roads. www.docwong.com |

docwong ::: Favorites 2007-12-24 23:09:59 However, on my enduro/dirt bike (KTM200) where I love very technical/difficult terrain, yes, the need to be able to put both feet down is important, so on a dirt bike that I use for that kind of riding, I do lower it 1 1/2". __________________________________________________
docwong ::: Favorites 2007-12-24 23:09:31 The GS is for awesome street riding/touring and fire trails so I don't need to have to put both feet down at stops or slow speeds. I don't want to lower the seat because it's more comfortable in the saddle with my knee more extended. I don't want to lower my suspension because I want the bike to perform with full travel and am not willing to sacrifice height for that. __________________________________________________
docwong ::: Favorites 2007-12-24 23:08:24 Yes, I'm 5'7" with a short 30" inseem and have the seat in the high position with no modifications to the suspension height. The only time the ability to touch both feet on the ground to provide some balance is when you come to a stop or at very lot speeds in a parking lot. I just slide my rear to one side and I can put one foot down. In the dirt if you're doing more technical dirt tracks, having a lower bike is valuable, but that's not what I use the GS for. __________________________________________________
imjustabenjamin ::: Favorites 2007-12-24 22:14:57 hey, you mentioned in the video you're 5'7".. ..i'm 5'8" myself and was concerned about getting both feet on the floor just incase i needed the extra stability.. i guess confidence on the bike itself and getting into a habit really helps, but can i ask how you have found getting on with the height of your bike? have you adjusted your suspension to lower the rider position? and have you used the stock seat? looking forward to a reply, Thanks, Tom. __________________________________________________ |
