exupstreetfighter ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 06:54:01 This, I feel, is where the most conflict arises. If religions left it at "The Universe was created with intent" there would be no point of contention. The earth was NOT created 6000 odd years age, FACT. When a man dies, he's dead, FACT. Burning bushes do not talk, FACT. You CANNOT heal leprosy by touch, FACT. War and piece, Moby Dick and lord of the rings are factual documents as much as any alleged "holy" book. But hey, why let the facts get in the way of a good story. __________________________________________________
exupstreetfighter ::: Favorites 2007-12-16 06:45:36 It is not a question of morality. That is not important. We can, and do, easily asume morals from everyday experience. The important question is was this universe "created" by something with intent. The morality BS is brought about by the leaders/founders of organised religions being obsessed with the idea that the morals that they hold are universal. __________________________________________________
firstar7406 ::: Favorites 2007-12-12 00:17:21 Dude i hope me to... cause a lot of ppl dont even believe (in faith) but they are stuck like you and me... One day Humans will become Humanist and not christian, muslim or whatever religion you are.. __________________________________________________
BrynWebb18 ::: Favorites 2007-12-06 15:43:54 The morality of either theism or atheism is not an argument for which is right I dont see why so many dwindle upon this. __________________________________________________
googoobh ::: Favorites 2007-11-28 17:57:24 I love this series. I'm so glad that there is enough interest to bring it about . where I'm from mearly sujesting I don't beleive in any god or supearier being, I would find all around me to become difficult and harsh. I hope for a day that freedom from religion will be as excepted as any other philosophy. __________________________________________________
caffingdu ::: Favorites 2007-11-18 20:34:23 I do agree. religion held us back in the dark ages, and it seems to be making an effort to do the same now. __________________________________________________
sonofbigboss ::: Favorites 2007-11-16 01:11:13 D'Holbach...what a visionary __________________________________________________
suzbailey23 ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 19:31:16 I will still contend with all sincerity, that religion is the greatest hinderance to the further social and intellectual development of our species. __________________________________________________
suzbailey23 ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 19:27:26 Tha's ok, when I went back and read my original post it sounded so sophomoric and goofy... like a perverse version of a football cry. :P "Push em back, push em back, WAYYYY BACK!" LOL __________________________________________________
caffingdu ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 19:24:15 sorry, misread your post. somehow I thought I saw different words in your post, idk. lol. sorry. __________________________________________________
suzbailey23 ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 01:55:38 No no, I didn't say do "anything" to stop it... that's one of the very attitudes that religion fosters that I wish we could overcome. I'm all about freeing us from the chains of superstition and lies. You can't ban religion; all you can do is offer a better way. __________________________________________________
caffingdu ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 01:50:55 (adding on to previous post) People have the right to practice whatever religion they like. You can debate with them, but never take away their right to practice their religion, and I would discourage ridicule. __________________________________________________
caffingdu ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 01:49:59 sure, religious extremism is a threat. but the GREATEST threat? I dont think so. I'm beginning to fear atheist extremism, though I am an atheist myself. "anything" to stop religion? what exactly does "anything" mean? surely not violence or laws ban the practice of religion (if atheists ever do become a majority) because that's what "anything" sounds like. __________________________________________________
bodnotbod ::: Favorites 2007-11-06 22:30:12 It's a lovely thought. But we've had fundamentalism many times before and theism isn't dead. So, unfortunately, I think you're wrong. __________________________________________________
woodytwoshoes ::: Favorites 2007-11-03 11:15:51 But will we make a religion of Atheism? We tread a fine line. __________________________________________________ |
